Background & Experience

Learn for Life Tutoring is owned and operated by Elena Darling-Hammond. 

Elena Darling-Hammond is a credentialed teacher who has taught and tutored students from preschool through high school.  She earned her Bachelors degree in 2005 from Haverford College, with a double major from Swarthmore College (Haverford's brother school) in Elementary Education and Sociology.  Her collegiate research focused on the importance of small group and one-on-one instruction in student development.  In addition, she is receiving training with Lindamood-Bell in reading assessment methods.

Ms. Darling-Hammond has 14 years of experience creating curricula for varying levels and subjects, and has assisted students of all achievement levels in preparing for a variety of standardized tests from the STAR to the SAT.  She has over 8 years of experience in helping struggling readers solidify their comprehension and decoding skills in conjunction with their writing skills.  In addition, she has over five years of experience working with students with an array of special needs, from school related anxiety to autism. 

Through her research and her experience working in schools, Ms. Darling-Hammond has seen the effectiveness of personalized curricula that build off of a child's strengths and natural ability as foundation for learning. 

Her philosophy is to work with the learning-style, needs, and interests of each child, helping them build on their strengths and acquire confidence, motivation, focus, and problem solving skills. 

The Learn for Life Tutoring center offers a clean and quiet environment which allows for learning without distractions. In addition one-on-one attention helps your child remain engaged, creating a safe and supportive learning environment for your child.
